Can you describe the career opportunity are you pursuing this summer?
This summer, I am embarking on a new professional journey with Bristol Myers Squibb as a Strategy and Business Development - Operations intern. The internship will allow me to deepen my understanding of business development, mergers, and acquisitions, hone my project management skills, and collaborate with key cross-functional stakeholders on impactful projects.
What led you to this opportunity? What help did you receive from your peers, alumni, or CTD in your journey to this position?
The guidance and support from my coach, Neha, alongside advice from Professor Lawry, coupled with the feedback from the Coaching and Talent Development (CTD) team were instrumental in helping me fine-tune my resume and analyze the alignment of this opportunity with my personal and professional goals.
What skills have you acquired during your studies at Minerva that you believe made you stand out?
As a double major in Business and Computational Sciences at Minerva, I am developing a skill set that marries diverse fields, such as business and technology, to address intricate challenges. One example is when I first encountered Bristol Myers Squibb during a business class. I used Python to visualize stock price data and critically assess their business strategy. It is not just the hard skills, but also a relentless problem-solving mindset, the ability to rapidly absorb new information, and adaptability. From Vibemap in San Francisco to SoCar in South Korea, to Uala in Argentina, Minerva gave me an opportunity to journey across the globe, tackling complex problems. This global experience, paired with a drive to challenge the status quo and the curiosity to fuse academic learning with real-world problem-solving, is what helped me stand out.
What advice would you give to peers or younger students regarding finding and leveraging professional opportunities in your industry?
For those interested in the dynamic pharmaceutical industry, remember that fit is not just about qualifications. Look for organizations that resonate with your values and passions - this compass will guide you toward fulfilling roles. Actively seek knowledge in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, and do not shy away from opportunities that offer a deeper understanding of these fields. Reflecting on my experience as a research intern at UnitedHealthGroup last summer, it offered invaluable insights into the industry trends and challenges. Take every opportunity to combine your academic knowledge with real-world problem-solving.
If you were inspired by Anastasiya's story and are seeking a college experience that will teach you valuable pragmatic skills that will effectively equip you for a successful career, consider applying to Minerva.
