San Francisco embodies the full depth and breadth of the full Minerva University student experience. During your time in this bustling city, you will enjoy intensive, location-based learning with leading figures and organizations. Outside of the classroom, everything from intensive civic projects to morning rituals, running, yoga, and many other stimulating activities are right at your doorstep.
Berlin
When you are not engaging with the city of Berlin as a globally-curious student, you can engage with it in ways that intertwine with your studies and make a real difference. During your time at Minerva University (not just in Berlin), you’ll have many opportunities to get involved with local organizations to help them tackle relevant real-world issues through dedicated civic projects.

Year 1 — San Francisco

Home at Van Ness Residence Hall

First-year students live at Van Ness Residence Hall in San Francisco's vibrant Civic Center neighborhood. The residence is professionally managed and designed to help new students build community from their very first day.

About the residence

Van Ness Residence Hall features fully furnished single rooms, communal kitchens, study lounges, a rooftop terrace, and on-site laundry. 24/7 staff and security ensure a safe environment for students from around the world.

Common areas & facilities

Shared kitchen

All tables, wet stations, prep stations, and cooking stations are stainless steel. Although the kitchen is cleaned daily by custodial staff, the custodial staff only attend to floors — residents are responsible for their own dishes and countertops.

Key things to know before you arrive

Maintenance & repairs: Report all maintenance concerns through Buildium. If keys are lost or stolen, report immediately through Buildium.

Plumbing: Do not flush personal hygiene products, wet wipes, tissues, plastic or paper wrappers, or paper towels. If a waste pipe is blocked, attempt to clear it first yourself; if unable, submit a maintenance request through Buildium.

Storage: Nothing may be stored outside of your unit — this includes hallways, stairwells, fire exits, the Common Room, Study Rooms, and Lobby.

Trash & recycling: Bins are located on the 1st floor parking lot, accessible through the door to the left of the gym.

Mail: Sorted daily into mailboxes categorized by the first letter of your surname.

Year 2 — Tokyo

Home at Tokyo Shinagawa Residence Hall

Second-year students live at the Tokyo Shinagawa Residence Hall in one of Shinagawa’s most connected and vibrant neighborhoods. Located just steps from Shinagawa Station, the residence offers unparalleled access to the rest of Tokyo and beyond. Recently renovated in September 2025 and professionally managed by goodRoom, the residence is designed to support student life in a global city.

About the residence

The Tokyo Shinagawa Residence Hall consists of two buildings—the Meisei Building and Wakaba Building—connected by a small shared courtyard. Originally a company dormitory, the space has been thoughtfully updated to accommodate student living. The residence features double-room accommodations, multiple shared kitchens, communal bathrooms, and dedicated study lounges in each building. Every floor includes shared showers, toilets, kitchens, and laundry facilities, creating a collaborative and community-oriented living environment for students from around the world.

Washing machines are free; dryers cost ¥100 per 20 minutes. Laundry detergent is provided at no charge.

Shower & housekeeping

Shower amenities (shampoo, conditioner, body soap & hair dryer) are provided in shared shower rooms.

Room cleaning: Individual rooms are cleaned once a month; communal areas are cleaned Tue, Thu, Fri & Sun.

Key things to know before you arrive

Quiet hours: 10:00 pm–7:00 am (Sun–Thu) and 11:00 pm–7:00 am (Fri–Sat).

No shoes indoors: Remove shoes at the entrance and place them in designated shoe boxes (one pair per person).

No pets are allowed in the facility.

Smoking is prohibited except in the designated smoking room (electronic cigarettes only).
