A Conversation with Incoming Minerva Graduate Student Chang How Choo

Could you tell us a bit about yourself? What is your current role, and what inspired you to pursue a graduate degree at this stage of your career?

I am Chang How Choo, a Nurse Educator from Singapore with a keen interest in healthcare education and digital innovations. At this stage of my career, I hope to pursue a graduate degree to broaden my perspective, strengthen my decision-making capabilities, and better prepare myself to contribute to healthcare transformation at a wider organizational level.

What drew you to Minerva's Master of Decision Making and Applied Analytics program? What stood out about the MDA compared to other graduate programs you considered?

What drew me to Minerva was its reputation as the world's most innovative university and its distinctive approach to learning. I wanted a program that would challenge me to think from different perspectives while learning alongside a truly global and diverse cohort. Among the graduate programs I explored, MDA stood out because it aligns with my aspirations in healthcare and nursing education. I hope to strengthen my ability to analyze complex problems, make evidence-informed decisions, and lead meaningful transformation, while developing the analytical mindset and strategic perspective needed to create lasting impact.

Your work spans nursing education, healthcare, and educational technology. What challenge in this space are you most passionate about solving, and how do you hope the MDA will help you make a greater impact?

‍

One of the challenges I look forward to is preparing the nursing workforce for a healthcare landscape that is evolving faster than traditional education can keep up with. Through my work in nursing education and educational technology, I have seen the potential of digital innovations, but I have also realised that meaningful transformation requires more than introducing new technologies. It requires the ability to identify emerging trends, anticipate future workforce needs, and make sound decisions based on evidence. The MDA will provide the analytical and decision-making capabilities needed to turn data into actionable insights, identifying future learning gaps and optimizing educational strategies that better prepare nurses and nursing leaders for the future of healthcare.

Which aspects of the MDA are you most looking forward to? This could be the curriculum, the global cohort, the flexible format, or opportunities to apply what you learn in your work.

I am particularly excited about experiencing Minerva's distinctive approach to learning, where education is reimagined beyond the traditional classroom. I also look forward to learning alongside a diverse global cohort and community, exchanging different perspectives, and discovering how our varied experiences can spark new ideas, meaningful collaboration, and lasting impact.

‍Decision-making is at the heart of the MDA. Why do you think strong decision-making skills are becoming increasingly important for professionals and leaders in healthcare and education?

‍

Healthcare and education are becoming increasingly complex with an aging population, evolving care needs, and rapid advances in digital technologies. Strong decision-making skills are essential to navigate this complexity, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement sustainable, technology-enabled solutions. I believe healthcare educators will increasingly need to contribute beyond teaching by shaping strategy, driving innovation, and supporting evidence-informed decisions that strengthen the future healthcare workforce.

Looking ahead, where do you hope this degree takes you? What impact do you hope to make after graduating?

‍

I hope the MDA will broaden my perspective as a healthcare leader and strengthen my ability to make evidence-informed decisions that drive meaningful and sustainable change. Beyond applying these learnings to strengthen workforce training and development, I hope to introduce new ideas and emerging approaches from the MDA to fellow nurses and nurse leaders, contributing to a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and better decision-making across healthcare.
