MINERVA VOICES

From Georgia to Taipei

by Ketevan, Class of 2027

October 9, 2024

Moving to a new city is never easy. Coming from Georgia, I remember how difficult it was to adapt to American culture when I first started my Minerva journey in San Francisco. Now, I’ve found myself in a completely different part of the world—Taiwan.

I felt a whirlwind of emotions leading up to my arrival: excitement, fear, and anticipation all mixed together. But from the moment I landed in Taipei, those fears faded.

The city welcomed me with open arms. The people here are incredibly kind, always offering smiles and warmth, even when we don’t speak the same language. Whether it’s enjoying boba tea or exploring the breathtaking nature, I quickly realized that Taipei had its own way of making me feel at home.

A highlight of each new semester at Minerva University is Elevation and Exploration Day—two events designed to help you bond with your classmates while immersing yourself in the city that will be your home for the next few months.

Our first Elevation Day in Taipei took us to National Taiwan University (NTU). We toured the beautiful campus, met local professors, and learned about the resources available to us, including libraries, clubs, and community events.

During our Exploration day, we split into teams and explored different landmarks around Taipei, like the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. We took pictures, wrote poetry, and gave presentations about our adventures.

Elevation Days aren’t just about sightseeing—they help create bonds, making each new city feel familiar and exciting. They transform what could be an overwhelming transition into a shared adventure.

Looking back on my journey, I realize how much these experiences have shaped me. Moving from Georgia to the U.S., and now to Taiwan, has taught me that home isn’t a single place—it’s the connections you make, the people you meet, and the memories you create. And for now, Taipei is home.

If you’re searching for an education that goes beyond the traditional, one that challenges you to think critically, connect globally, and immerse yourself in diverse cultures, then Minerva University might be the place for you.

Take the leap, start your own journey, and discover where the world can take you!
