What drew you to apply and enroll at Minerva?
Traveling around the world was undoubtedly a huge draw for me. I wanted to open my eyes to new cultures, perspectives, and possibilities, in ways that I could not do at my previous university. However, as I looked for a new academic home, I was also yearning for something deeper. I wanted a university experience that would challenge me in ways I hadn't been before. I wanted to be part of a community that shared my passion for growth and learning. This search led me to prioritize finding a place where I could not only excel academically but also feel a sense of belonging and connection.
What is a standout moment from your Minerva journey that you believe has been particularly transformative for you as a student and an individual?
It's not about one single moment, but rather the accumulation of countless small ones that truly define my experience at Minerva. There are times when I pause and reflect, realizing the distance I've traveled. Whether it's engaging in captivating discussions about geopolitics or philosophy with friends for hours on end, or simply heading to the beach to witness the sun setting while singing our hearts out, Minerva is brimming with these special moments that add a touch of sweetness to life.
Can you share an example of a challenging project or assignment you have encountered at Minerva and how it has contributed to your growth as a critical and creative thinker?
Starting on our first Formal Analysis (FA50) assignment was nerve-wracking. Coding felt like an alien concept, and my friends shared my uncertainty. Yet, we decided to tackle it together. As a group, we brainstormed, experimented, and stumbled through the task. We spent hours huddled together, brainstorming ideas, trying to figure out where to even start. Looking back on that experience, it taught me a couple of important things. Firstly, it showed me the incredible power of community and friendship. Having a support system of friends who are there for you, who are willing to roll up their sleeves and work alongside you, can make even the most daunting tasks feel manageable. Secondly, it reinforced the notion that academic success isn't just reserved for the naturally gifted or those with prior knowledge. It's something that's within reach for anyone who's willing to put in the effort and persevere through challenges. So, while that first assignment may have felt like an insurmountable obstacle at the time, it ultimately became a lesson in resilience, teamwork, and the importance of believing in yourself.
How have the active learning and seminar-style classes influenced your academic development and professional readiness?
To be frank, I find joy in learning through any means—whether it's through traditional lectures or more interactive methods. Keeping engaged in the class has always been a top priority for me. However, what sets Minerva apart is its unique approach that encourages active participation and facilitates meaningful connections with fellow students. Being able to engage with peers and hear diverse perspectives has been a highlight of my experience.
In your opinion, what sets a Minerva education apart from traditional universities, and how do you envision the value of your Minerva degree in your postgraduate and professional journey?
Minerva’s education not only focuses on content but also teaches you how to learn effectively. Although I have just completed my first year and can't yet speak extensively about the business material, I can already see how the other elements of my education will benefit me in the future.
Minerva’s classes are highly interactive, requiring students to stay engaged and knowledgeable about the material, thus requiring significant time before class. Over the past year, I have improved my note-taking skills and learned how to organize my time efficiently to balance all my activities.
I anticipate that Minerva will play a key role in my post-grad life, allowing me to be more efficient and effective through the skills I have developed. Specifically, I have gained valuable insights into global travel and business. I will have also honed my adaptability, through moving to the rotation cities, which is crucial in a rapidly changing world. Additionally, I have learned to leverage project-based learning experiences to solve real-world problems, as our classes have assignments and not exams. Through these assignments I will have also strengthened my teamwork skills, making me a more collaborative and effective team member.
